Coron Ocean Learning Center
Haraya builds Marine Conservation Learning Centers that empower coastal youth through local teaching, hands-on learning, and environmental stewardship.
Haraya Projects seeks to establish Marine Conservation Learning Centers in underpriviledged coastal communities around the globe to equip local children with environmentally-tailored skills, environmental knowledge, and a passion for marine conservation. This initiative will cultivate a generation of community leaders dedicated to protecting marine ecosystems.
The program will launch in the Maricaban community, offering hands-on education, diving certifications, coral reef restoration projects, and environmental advocacy. One main problem in the Philippines is that once schools are built, there are no teachers that are willing to work in low-income communities. By training local educators and community leaders to run and sustain each center, we solve this problem.
Our approach is uniquely our own. We have merged the best of Montessori and Reggio Emilia pedagogies with our own pedagogical emphasis of environmental awareness, which tailors each learning center to the unique landscape, culture, and economic needs of its community.
